콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관은 미국이 아프리카 국가들과의 협력을 강화하고 있으며, 이는 빈곤을 타파하고 바른 정부 체제를 지원하기 위한 것이라고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 19일 아프리카 가나에서 열리고 있는 무역 회의에서 행한 비디오 연설에서 이같이 밝혔습니다. 라이스 장관은 당초 이 회의에 참석할 예정이었으나, 워싱턴에서 열리는 중동 관련 회담 참석때문에 비디오 연설로 대신했습니다.
라이스 장관은 연설에서 미국이 최근 아프리카와에 대한 무역 특혜를 연장한 점도 언급했습니다. 미국은 아프리카의 상품에 대해서는 수입 제한을 두지 않는 현행 조치를 2020년까지 연장하기로 했습니다.
라이스 장관은 이어 미국이 가나와 모잠비크 등 가장 책임있는 정부에 20억 달러를 지원하기로 했다고 말했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the United States is building a partnership with Africa to support poverty reduction and good governance across the continent.
Rice gave her remarks by video link Thursday to a trade forum meeting in Ghana. She was scheduled to attend the meeting, but canceled her trip to attend discussions in Washington on the Middle East.
In her address, Rice drew attention to the recently-extended African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) - an initiative that removes restrictions on goods imported to the United States from Africa until 2020.
She also noted that a U.S. government corporation (The Millennium Challenge Corporation) has committed two billion dollars in aid to what she called "some of the most responsible governments in Africa, including Ghana and Mozambique.
