Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said today (Monday) that Mohammed Haneef will remain behind bars because Australia has revoked the Indian doctor's work visa.
Hours earlier, an Australian magistrate (Jacqui Payne) set bail for Haneef at eight-thousand-700-dollars. The judge said police had failed to establish a clear link between Haneef and a terrorist organization. Prosecutors had argued that Australia's anti-terrorism laws allow bail only in exceptional circumstances.
After holding Haneef for 12 days without charge, prosecutors charged him Saturday with "recklessly" providing support to a terrorist organization. Haneef had given two bombing suspects a SIM phone card found in the burning car used in an attack on Glasgow's airport.
