조지 부시 미국 대통령이 2일 미국 중앙정보국(CIA) 비밀요원 신분노출 사건과 관련해 거짓증언을 한 혐의로 유죄판결을 받은 루이스 리비 전 부통령 비서실장의 징역형을 면제한 가운데 하원 법사위원회가 이와 관련해 청문회를 개최할 예정입니다.
민주당 중진이자 하원 법사위원회 위원장인 존 커니어스 하원의원은 법사위원회가 다음주중, 부시 대통령의 리비 전 비서실장에 대한 부분 사면에 관해 청문회를 열 계획이라고 말했습니다.
부시 대통령은 앞서 리비 전 비서실장에게 선고됐던 30개월의 징역형을 대통령 특권에 따라 면제했습니다.
부시 대통령은 성명에서 판사의 판결을 존중하지만 형량이 과도하다는 결론을 내려 스스로 이 같이 결정했다고 말했습니다.

Mr. Bush commuted the 30-month prison sentence of Lewis "Scooter" Libby on Monday. Libby, former chief-of-staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted in March of lying to a grand jury investigating who exposed the identity of Valerie Plame, an former undercover CIA operative. Mr. Bush called the prison sentence excessive, and has not ruled out issuing Libby a full presidential
