블레어 전 총리는 의원들에게 영국 군대가 이라크와 아프가니스탄에서 처한 위험에 대해서는 유감이지만 테러와의 전쟁에서 미국을 지지한데 대해서는 사과하지 않았습니다.
이런 가운데 미국의 조지 부시 대통령은 브라운 총리에게 취임을 축하하는 전화를 걸었다고 미국 정부 관계자가 밝혔습니다. 브라운 총리와 부시 대통령은 두 나라간의 동맹을 다시 확인하고 견고한 협력을 계속 유지하기로 약속했다고 미국 백악관 국가안전보장회의 고든 존드로 대변인이 전했습니다.

Britain's new prime minister Gordon Brown has pledged new policies as well as service to the British people after being asked by Queen Elizabeth to form a new government.
Speaking outside the prime minister's Downing Street residence, Mr. Brown said his government will have new priorities and will go beyond party interests to serve the aspirations of the whole country.
Before submitting his resignation to the Queen, outgoing Prime Minister Tony Blair held his final question and answer session with the House of Commons. Mr. Blair told lawmakers he was sorry for the peril British troops faced in Iraq and Afghanistan, but made no apology for backing the United States in the war on terror.
In Washingon, U.S. officials say President Bush telephoned Mr. Brown to congratulate him. A National Security Council spokesman (Gordon Johndroe) says the two leaders reaffirmed the bond between their countries and pledged to continue strong cooperation.
