스리랑카 보안군은 동부와 북부 지방에서 19일 벌어진 지상과 해상 전투에서 약 70명의 타밀 반군을 사살했다고, 스리랑카 군이 밝혔습니다.
스리랑카 군 국가안보 언론센터 소장은 앞으로 며칠 안에 동부지방에서 타밀 반군이 소탕될 것이라고 예상하면서, 그 후 군은 북쪽으로 관심을 돌릴 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
군 당국자들은 보안군이 타밀 반군의 마지막 거점 가운데 하나인 동부지방 토피갈라에서 반군 기지 3곳을 파괴하고 적어도 25명의 반군을 사살했다고 말했습니다.
또한 동부지방 바티칼로아에서는 반군 3명이 보안군과 전투 중 사망했습니다.
이밖에 스리랑카 해군은 북부 자프나 반도 근처 바다에서 타밀 반군 선박 5척을 파괴하고 약 40명의 반군을 사살했다고 말했습니다.

Sri Lanka's military says security forces killed about 70 Tamil rebels in land and sea battles in the east and north of the country in the past day.
The director of the Military's Media Center for National Security (Lakshman Hulugalle) today (Wednesday) predicted that rebel Tamil Tigers would be cleared from the east within the next few days.
He added that the military would then turn its attentions to the north.
In one incident, the military says troops destroyed three rebel camps in the eastern region of Thoppigala, killing at least 25 rebels.
Thoppigala is one of the last remaining Tamil strongholds in the east.
Elsewhere Tuesday, Sri Lanka's navy says it destroyed five Tamil rebel boats and killed around 40 rebels in waters near the Jaffna peninsula in the north.
Tamil rebels say they will hold on to their strongholds after making what they called "tactical withdrawals."
