China says Premier Wen Jiabao is planning to take steps to slow the country's fast-paced economic growth without hurting it.
China's official news agency reports that Mr. Wen is promising to moderately tighten monetary policies soon to ensure stable growth.
But some financial experts say past efforts by the government to restrain the economy have been ineffective.
Stephen Green of Standard Chartered Bank in Shanghai says the measures Beijing has taken so far, including interest rate increases, do not go nearly far enough. He anticipates that the government's new measures will include raising interest rates again in an attempt to head off inflation.
Officials have already raised interest rates four times in 14 months to slow growth. Last month, the government tripled the tax on stock market transactions, prompting a brief decline on the Shanghai stock exchange.
China's economy grew by 11 percent in the first three months of this year.
