중국 국무원 타이완사무판공실의 양이 대변인은 13일, 그같은 움직임은 타이완과 중국 본토 사이의 관계를 위협하는 것이라고 말했습니다.
양 대변인은 중국은 타이완 국민과 국제사회가 유엔 가입 문제에 관한 국민투표를 추진하는 천 총통의 저의를 인식할 수 있기를 기대한다고 말했습니다. 중국은 그같은 국민 투표는 독립을 향한 단계조치라고 말하고 있습니다.

China is lashing out at Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian's push for a public vote on whether Taiwan should join the United Nations.
A spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Yang Yi, said today
(Wednesday) the move poses a threat to relations between Taiwan and the mainland.
Yang said that China hopes people in Taiwan and the international community can recognize what he called Chen Shui-bian's "ulterior motive" in pushing for a public vote on the issue. China says the the proposed referendum is a step on the way to independence.
China and Taiwan split in 1949 at the end of a civil war, but China still claims the island as part of its territory. China has threatened to take the island by force if Taiwan declares formal independence.
