중국 남부에 몇일째 폭우가 쏟아지면서 홍수와 산사태가 발생해 적어도 71 명이 숨졌다고 관영 신화통신이 오늘(12일) 보도했습니다. 이 지역에는 앞으로 몇일 더 강한 비바람이 몰아칠 것으로 예상돼 피해가 더 커질 것으로 우려되고 있습니다.
신화통신은 현재 64만명의 이재민이 발생했으며 13명이 실종된 상태라고 전했습니다. 신화통신은 광둥성이 이번 홍수의 최대 피해지역이라고 소개하고 이 지역에서만 1억 6천만달러의 피해가 발생했다고 덧붙였습니다.
광둥성외에도 남부 후난성과 광지, 구이조우, 장시, 푸잔성에서도 폭우가 계속 쏟아지면서 큰 물 피해로 몸살을 앓고 있습니다.

China's official Xinhua news agency says at least 71 people have been killed in southern China in flooding and mudslides brought on by days of torrential rains. More stormy weather is expected in the coming days.
Xinhua reports today (Tuesday) that 13 people are missing and more than 640-thousand have been forced from their homes. Worst hit is Guangdong province, where Xinhua says weather-related damage totals 160 million dollars. Downpours and flooding are also soaking the provinces of Hunan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Jiangxi and Fujian.
Xinhua says the Ministry of Civil Affairs estimates economic losses to be around 436 million dollars, half of it in the agricultural sector.
