러시아는 미국이 유럽에 건설하려는 미사일방어체제 구축계획을 중단할 것을 촉구했습니다.
세르게이 라브로프 러시아 외무장관은 9일 이 문제에 대한 분석과 협상이 현재 진행중이기 때문에 유럽에서 미사일 방어체제의 배치를 동결할 필요가 있다고 말했습니다.
러시아는 이란과 북한과 같은 국가로부터의 위협에 대처하기 위해 폴랜드에 1개 미사일 중대와 체코공화국에 1개 레이더 기지를 건설하려는 미국의 계획에 반대하고 있습니다.
블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령은 이번 주 독일 하일리겐담에서 열린 선진 8개국 정상회담에서 이란과 접경하고 있는 아제르바이잔 가발라에 있는 레이더기지를 공동으로 사용하자고 부시 대통령에게 제의했습니다. 부시 대통령은 이 제의를 검토할 것이라고 말했습니다.

Russia has urged the United States to halt plans for creating a missile defense system in Europe while considering Moscow's alternative proposal for a joint use of a radar station in Azerbaijan.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today (Saturday) that it is necessary to freeze the deployment of a missile shield system in Europe while analysis and negotiations on the issue are going on.
Moscow has vehemently opposed U.S. plans to deploy a battery of missiles in Poland, with a radar base in the Czech Republic to counter possible threats from nations such as Iran or North Korea. At the Group of Eight summit in Germany (this week), Russian President Vladimir Putin offered President Bush the joint use of a radar station in (Gabala,) Azerbaijan, which borders Iran.
Mr. Bush said he would consider the proposal.
