South Korea's election watchdog says President Roh Moo-hyun has violated election laws by criticizing the main opposition party.
The National Election Commission ruled that Mr. Roh violated laws that require public officials to remain neutral before national elections.
A commission spokesman (Yang Keum-suk) said today (Thursday) the president broke the law by saying the opposition Grand National Party should not win the December presidential election. Mr. Roh also made critical remarks against the party's presidential hopefuls.
The National Election Commission spokesman said Mr. Roh would receive a written warning for his offense. The president's office has not commented.
Mr. Roh's five-year term ends in February. South Korean law prohibits him from running for another term.
