마무드 압바스 팔레스타인 자치정부 수반은 5일 팔레스타인 국가의 수립이 실현 가능한 범위내에 있다고 말했습니다.
압바스 수반은 1967년 아랍이 중동전쟁에서 이스라엘에 패한지 40주년을 맞아 그같이 말했습니다.
압바스 수반은 팔레스타인은 전쟁 후 이스라엘이 요르단 강 서안과 가자지구, 그리고 예루살렘의 일부를 점령하고, 이집트와 시리아 요르단이 격파당하는 값비싼 대가를 치뤘다고 말했습니다.
압바스 수반은 그러나 현재 팔레스타인을 내전의 벼랑 끝으로 내몰고 있는 파벌간 싸움은 이스라엘의 점령과 동등하거나 그 보다 더 나쁜 것이라고 지적했습니다.
압바스 수반은 또 이번 주에 에후드 올메르트 이스라엘 총리와의 회담에서 최종 평화회담에 관한 논의도 포함시키려고 시도할 것이라고 말했습니다. 이스라엘은 이번 회담을 인도주의 문제로 한정시키기를 원하고 있습니다.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says a Palestinian state is within reach, as he marked the 40th anniversary of the Arab defeat to Israel in the 1967 Middle East War.
Mr. Abbas said Palestinians have paid a heavy price following the war, which saw Israel capture the West Bank, Gaza Strip and parts of Jerusalem, and defeat the armies of Egypt, Syria and Jordan.
But Mr. Abbas added that the current factional fighting that has left the Palestinians on the verge of civil war is equal to, or even worse, than Israeli occupation.
Mr. Abbas also said he will try to include discussions on a final peace deal when he meets with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert this week. The Israelis want to limit the talks to humanitarian issues.
