선진8개국(G8) 외교장관들은 30일 이란이 핵 농축 활동을 중단할 것을 촉구했습니다. 또한 이란이 계속 핵 농축을 강행할 경우 그에 다른 조치에 직면할 것이라고 경고했습니다.
독일, 러시아, 미국, 영국, 이탈리아, 일본, 캐나다, 프랑스 등 선진8개국 외교장관들은 이란이 유엔의 핵 활동 중단 요구를 무시한 데 대해서 비난했습니다.
또한 이란이 핵 농축 활동을 확대하고 있다는 국제원자력기구에 최근 보고서에 대해서도 우려를 표했습니다.
한편 이날 오전 이란의 알리 라리자니 핵협상 대표는 핵 농축 중단은 이란과 서방국가들간의 촉발된 핵 관련 대립을 해결하는 길이 아니라고 말했습니다. 라리자니 대표는 31일 스페인에서 하비에르 솔라나 유럽연합 외교정책대표와 만나서 핵 문제를 논의할 예정입니다.
이란 정부는 핵 농축 활동을 중단하라는 국제사회의 요구를 계속해서 무시하고 있습니다. 핵 농축은 핵 무기 제조에도 활용될 수 있습니다.

Foreign ministers from the Group of Eight industrialized nations have renewed calls for Iran to stop nuclear enrichment activities or face "appropriate measures."
The G-8 foreign ministers (of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States) today (Wednesday) admonished Iran for ignoring the United Nations deadline to stop the sensitive nuclear work.
They also expressed deep regret over recent findings by the International Atomic Energy Agency that Iran has expanded enrichment activities.
Earlier today, Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, said suspending enrichment is not the way to resolve Iran's nuclear standoff with the West. He meets in Spain Thursday with European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana for talks on the issue.
Tehran has continued to defy international demands to stop enriching uranium -- a process that can produce material suitable for building nuclear weapons.
