이라크 주둔 미군은 유프라테스강에서 23일 발견된 사체가 약 2주일전 저항세력에 납치된 미군 3명 가운데 1명임을 확인했습니다.
조슬린 아베르레 미군 대변인은 오늘(24일) 이 사체가 조셉 안작 주니어 일병임을 확인했다고 말했습니다.
안작 일병과 다른 2명의 병사는 지난 12일 바그다드 남부 지역에서 순찰중 알 카에다 테러 조직으로 보이는 괴한들의 급습을 받은 뒤 납치됐습니다. 미군이 납치된 이 지역은 저항세력의 거점으로 죽음의 삼각지대로 알려져 있습니다.
한편 서부도시 팔루자에서는 테러조직 알 카에다에 반대하다 숨진 한 인사의 장례식장에서 차량을 이용한 폭탄 공격이 발생해 적어도 26명이 숨졌다고 이라크 당국이 밝혔습니다.
바그다드 북부 술라이만 벡 지역에서는 도로에 설치된 폭탄 폭발로 경찰 6명이 사망했습니다.

The U.S. military in Iraq has confirmed that a body pulled from the Euphrates River
Wednesday was one of three U.S. soldiers missing for nearly two weeks.
A military spokeswoman (Lieutenant-Colonel Josslyn Aberle) said today (Thursday) that the body has been identified as Private First Class Joseph Anzack Jr. (from Torrance, California).
Anzack and two other soldiers are believed to have been captured by al-Qaida-linked
terrorists, after their patrol was ambushed south of Baghdad on May 12th. The attack in an insurgent stronghold known as the "Triangle of Death" triggered a massive search operation.
In the western city of Fallujah, Iraqi officials say a car bomb blast killed at least 26 people, as mourners gathered for a funeral for a local man who opposed al-Qaida.
North of Baghdad near Sulaiman Bek, a roadside bomb blast killed six police officers.
