Iraqi officials say gunmen have attacked a minibus north of Baghdad, killing seven people, including a child.
The officials say the attack took place today (Monday) near the town of Baquba, underscoring the violence that is plaguing the province of Diyala.
A roadside bombing also killed three Iraqi soldiers in western Baghdad, and a mortar shell struck the parliament building, but no one was injured.
In other news, U.S.-led coalition forces in Iraq say during a raid on a building today northeast of Karmah, they rescued five Iraqis held captive and tortured by terrorists.
On the political front, President Bush telephoned Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to reaffirm U.S. support for the Iraqi leader -- one year after he took office.
A White House spokesman (Tony Fratto) says the two leaders also discussed the need to move forward with political reconciliation in Iraq.
