가자시티 소재 하마스 고위 관리 자택에 대한 이스라엘의 공습으로 8명이 사망하고 적어도 12명이 부상했다고 팔레스타인 관계관들이 밝혔습니다.
이스라엘은 팔레스타인 무장분자들이 이스라엘 영토로 로켓을 발사하지 못하도록 막기 위해 가자 지구에의 군사 작전을 강화하기로 안보 내각이 결정한 지 몇 시간 만에 이같은 공습을 단행했습니다.
이스라엘 내각은 20일 이스라엘 군이 로켓 공격에 책임이 있는 것으로 생각되는 과격단체 하마스와 이슬람 지하드 단원들을 표적으로 삼도록 허용될 것이라고 말했습니다.
이스라엘의 에후드 올메르트 총리는 안보 내각에게 팔레스타인 과격 분자들이 지난 16일 이후 120개의 로켓을 발사했다고 말했습니다. 이스라엘은 로켓 공격에 대응해 지난 15일 이래 가자지구에서 공습을 단행하고 있습니다.
가자지구에서는 20일 이스라엘군의 공습으로 하마스 과격분자들로 의심되는 3명이 사망했습니다.

Palestinian officials say an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza City home of a senior member of Hamas has killed eight people and wounded at least 12 others.
Israel launched the strike hours after its security cabinet decided to intensify operations in Gaza to stop Palestinian militants from firing rockets from the territory into Israel.
The cabinet said (Sunday) the Israeli army would be allowed to target those in Hamas and Islamic Jihad deemed responsible for the rocket attacks.
Earlier Sunday, an Israeli air strike on a car in Gaza killed three suspected Hamas militants. Another air strike targeted a suspected weapons workshop.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says Palestinians have fired 120 rockets since Wednesday. Israel has carried out airstrikes in Gaza since Tuesday.
