남부 헬만드 주에서 소탕작전을 벌이고 있는 아프간 군과 나토군이 70여명의 탈레반을 살해했다고 12일 아프간의 한 경찰 관계자가 밝혔습니다.
익명을 요구한 이 관계자는 나흐리 사라즈지역에서 사망한 탈레반 무장세력 가운데에 5명의 탈레반 지휘관도 들어있다고 말했습니다.
이 관계자는 아프간군과 나토군이 이 지역을 다시 탈환했다고 밝히고, 이제 나흐리 사라즈지역에서 탈레반 무장세력들을 완전히 소탕됐다고 말했습니다.
나토군과 미국 주도 연합군은 이같은 아프간 관계자의 발언을 즉각 확인하지 못했습니다.
한편 남부 칸다하르주에서 도로변폭탄이 터져 8명의 경찰관이 사망했다고 당국이 밝혔습니다.

An Afghan security official says Afghan and international troops have killed more than 70 Taleban insurgents during a week-long operation in southern Helmand province.
The official, who spoke anonymously, said five Taleban commanders are among the dead in Nahri Saraj district. He said troops have re-taken control of the area, and he added that Nahri Saraj is now "cleared" of Taleban fighters.
NATO and the U.S.-led coalition were not able to immediately confirm the Afghan official's statement.
Troubled Helmand province is a hotbed of insurgent activity. It is the hub of Afghanistan's booming illegal drug industry.
Elsewhere in the south, authorities say eight police officers were killed when a roadside bomb tore through their vehicle in Kandahar province.
