체니 부통령은 오늘 바그다드에서 북쪽으로 160 여 킬로미터 떨어진 티크리트 근처의 미군 기지에서 병사들과 아침 식사를 했습니다. 전날 이라크에 도착한 체니 부통령은 과거 이라크 공군사관학교 건물로 쓰였던 미군기지에서 처음으로 하룻밤을 보냈습니다. 체니 부통령의 행보는 오늘 연설 전까지 계속 비밀로 유지됐습니다.

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney says the Bush administration's decision to extend military deployment in Iraq is "vital to the mission."
In a speech to American troops in Iraq, Cheney vowed to "stay the course" despite opposition to the war in the United States.
Cheney had breakfast with troops at their base near the Iraqi city of Tikrit, some 160-kilometers north of Baghdad.
He spent the night at the base -- a former Iraqi Air Force Academy -- for the first time in the country.
His whereabouts were kept secret until his speech to the troops.
The vice president, who is on a tour of the Middle East, travels next to the United Arab Emirates. He also is due to visit Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan.
