8명의 외국인 근로자와 한 명의 나이지리아인 운전사는 나중에 풀려났지만, 무장세력은 한국의 대우건설 임직원 3명과 필리핀인 8명, 그리고 네덜란드인 한 명을 계속 억류하고 있습니다.
니제르 델타지역은 평소 무장세력들이 활동하는 곳으로 납치사건이 자주 발생하고 있습니다.

Such kidnappings are common in the Niger Delta, where criminal gangs are active, and where militants have demanded the government give more of the region's oil wealth to impoverished locals.
