일본의 한 병원이 아기를 키우지 못하는 부모가 아기를 익명으로 맡길 수 있는 일종의 우편함을 설치했습니다.
일본 서남부 구마모토시의 지케이 병원은 1일 이 ‘신생아 우편함’의 시험운영에 들어가 오는 10일까지 대중을 상대로 운영할 계획입니다. 미숙아 보육기 처럼 생긴 이 우편함은 이날 병원 건물 측면에 설치됐습니다.
누군가 우편함에 아기를 넣으면 병원 관계자들에게 아기의 도착을 알리는 경보음과 동영상 경보가 작동됩니다. 일부 일본 정치인들은 이 우편함이 부모들 사이에서 영아유기를 장려할 수 있다고 우려하고 있습니다.

A Japanese hospital has installed a drop-off hatch where parents can anonymously leave their unwanted infants.
The Jikei Hospital in the southwestern city of Kumamoto tested the hatch today (Tuesday) and plans to open the service to the public on May 10th.
Health workers installed the hatch on the side of the hospital building, like a mailbox. After babies are left in the incubator-like box, an alarm and video image alerts hospital staff of the infant's arrival.
Some politicians have expressed concern that the baby hatch will discourage parents from taking responsibility for their children.
Hospital officials say the hatch should be used only as a last resort, after counseling has failed.
