리드 의원은 이라크 주둔 미군 병력을 늘인 조지 부시 대통령의 결정은 잘못된 것이며, 의회가 새로운 방향을 제시할 것이라고 말했습니다.
한편 부시 대통령은 이보다 앞서 데이비드 페트로스 이라크 미군 사령관과 만났습니다. 부시 대통령은 이어서 기자들에게 워싱턴의 정치인들이 이라크의 미군 지휘관의 임무 수행 방식에 간섭해서는 안된다고 말했습니다.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid says the Democratic-controlled Congress will pass legislation within days that requires U.S. troops to start withdrawing from Iraq by October first.
Reid delivered a major speech on the Iraq war in Washington today (Monday), saying under the new legislation, U.S. troops who remain in Iraq after April first, 2008 can only train Iraqi security units, protect U.S. forces and conduct targeted counter-terror operations.
The Democratic senator said President Bush is wrong about his surge of U.S. troops for Iraq, and the new Congress will show him the way.
Earlier Monday, President Bush met with his top military leader in Iraq, General David Petraeus. Afterward, Mr. Bush told reporters he believes politicians in Washington should not be telling generals in Iraq how to do their jobs.
