이라크 수도 바그다드의 한 경찰서 주변에서 22일 발생한 자살 폭탄 공격으로 최소한 12명이 숨졌습니다.
경찰서 주변은 주로 시아파 주민들이 사는 지역으로, 75명의 부상자도 발생했습니다. 희생자 중에는 경찰과 주민이 모두 포함되어 있습니다.
한편 이라크 남부 바스라에서는 영국 군인이 기습 작전 중 이라크인 한 명을 사살했습니다.
한편 21일에는 팔루야 시의회 의장인 사미 알-지부리가 무장괴한의 총에 맞아 숨졌습니다. 알-지부리의 전임자도 괴한에 의해 살해됐었습니다.
두 사람은 의회 의장으로 있으면서 이라크 내 알카에다 조직을 공개적으로 비난했었습니다.
한편 데이비드 페트로스 이라크 주둔 미군 사령관은 ‘워싱턴포스트’와의 인터뷰에서, 지난 2월 미군과 이라크군이 추가 배치된 후 바그다드와 안바르 지역의 치안 상태가 호전됐다고 말했습니다. 하지만 다른 지역에서는 폭력 사태가 급격하게 늘어나고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.

Iraqi police say two suicide car bombers killed at least 12 people near a Baghdad police station today (Sunday).
At least 75 other people were wounded in the blasts in the mostly Shi'ite al-Bayaa neighborhood. The victims included police and civilians.
In Basra in southern Iraq, British soldiers killed a man during a raid on his house.
On Saturday, gunmen killed the chairman of the Fallujah City Council, weeks after his predecessor was also murdered.
Both men were outspoken critics of the group, al-Qaida in Iraq.
Meanwhile, General David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, told "The Washington Post" newspaper the increase in American and Iraqi troops since February has improved security in Baghdad and Anbar province. But he said attacks have risen sharply in other regions.
