중국의 양쯔강이 수십억 t에 달하는 폐수로 인해 복원이 불가능할 정도로 오염된 것으로 정부 조사 결과 드러났다고 현지 관영언론이 전했습니다.
이번 주 발표된 정부 보고서는 중국 전역 수자원의 거의 35%를 제공하고 있는 양쯔강에 대한 어두운 전망을 내놓았습니다.
보고서는 양쯔강 유역의 600 킬로미터 이상은 심각한 상태에 처해있고 양쯔강의 지류 중 30% 정도가 심각하게 오염된 상태라고 말했습니다. 이같은 오염과 더불어 댐과 선박의 교통량으로 인해 양쯔강의 생태계는 크게 파괴됐습니다.

Chinese state media say that a government study of the health of the Yangtze River shows that billions of tons of waste have irreversibly polluted its waters.
The report issued (by the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences) this week offers a grim outlook for the river that provides about 35 percent of China's total fresh water resources.
It says more than 600 kilometers of the river are in critical condition and almost 30 percent of its major tributaries are seriously polluted.
That pollution, along with dams and heavy boat traffic, has caused a dramatic decline in the Yangtze's aquatic life. The report says the annual harvest of aquatic products from the river dropped from 427-thousand tons in the 1950s to about 100-thousand tons in the 1990s.
