한국의 한 법원이 북한에 국가기밀을 제공한 혐의로 기소된 한국계 미국인에게 징역 9년형을 선고했습니다.
서울중앙지방법원은 16일 한국이름 장민호인 마이클 장씨가 정치.군사적 국가기밀을 북한 공작원들에게 전달하고 북한 공작원들과 한국인 4명과의 만남을 주선했다고 말했습니다.
법원은 이들 한국인 4명에 대해서도 간첩혐의로 각각 징역 4년내지 6년형을 선고했습니다.
이 중 2명은 좌파 성향의 야당인 민주노동당 소속 인사들입니다. 장씨는 지난 1989년 북한에 들어가 집권 노동당에 가입한 이후 여러 차례 밀입북 했었던 것으로 알려졌습니다.
한국 검찰은 또 장씨가 간첩조직을 결성했다고 주장했으나 재판부는 이같은 혐의를 뒷받침할 만한 증거가 없다고 말했습니다.

A South Korean court has convicted a U.S. citizen of Korean origin of spying for North Korea and sentenced him to nine years in prison.
The Seoul Central District Court said today (Monday) that Michael Jang (also known as Jang Min-ho) delivered confidential political and military information to North Korean agents and set up meetings between North Korean agents and four South Koreans.
The court also convicted the four South Koreans of espionage and sentenced them to prison terms of four to six years each. Among the four were two officials of South Korea's left-leaning Democratic Labor Party.
Jang had allegedly made secret trips to North Korea since 1989 when he joined the North's ruling communist party. Prosecutors had accused him of launching a spy network, but the court found no evidence supporting the charge.
