아프리카 나이지리아에서 14일 실시된 지방선거 실시와 관련된 폭력사태가 전국적으로 벌어져 적어도 스물 한 명이 살해됐다고 나이지리아 경찰당국이 말했습니다.
나이지리아 경찰청장, 순다이 에힌데로 장군은 15일, 이번 폭력사태에 살해된 사망자들 가운데는 일부 경찰관들도 포함돼 있으며 관련자 218명이 체포됐다고 밝혔습니다.
에힌데로 경찰청장과 뉴스 매체들이 전하는 바에 따르면 폭력사태중에 투표함 탈취와 관련해 총격이 벌어진 것으로 알려졌습니다.
나이지리아 뉴스매체들은 전국 폭력사태로 52명이 살해됐다고 보도했습니다. 나이지리아에서는 오는 21일 대통령 선거 투표가 실시됩니다.
한편, 14일 실시된 지방선거 투표 1차 결과 발표에 따르면 대다수의 주들에서 집권 인민 민주당이 승리하고 있는 것으로 나타났습니다.

Nigerian police say at least 21 people were killed across the country in violence connected to Saturday's state elections.
Police Inspector General Sunday Ehindero told Nigerian media today (Sunday) that several of the dead were police officers. He said another 218 people were also arrested.
Earlier, Nigerian newspapers reported that up to 52 people were killed.
Both Mr. Ehindero and media reports say the violence inlcuded incidents of shootings during robberies of ballot boxes and materials. The national press says most of the deaths were recorded in southern Nigeria.
Saturday's gubernatorial elections are important as state governors control spending on services such as education and health. The first results are expected to be released today (Sunday).
The state elections are a prelude to a presidential vote next Saturday.
Partial results from elections in Nigeria show the ruling People's Democratic Party winning in the majority of states where tallies have been announced.
