서양장기인 체스대회 우승자 출신의 러시아 야당 지도자 게리 카스파로프씨가 오늘(14일) 모스크바 중심가에서 정부가 반대하는 불법시위를 강행하려다 시위 전 당국에 체포됐습니다.
목격자들과 현지 언론들은 카스파로프씨가 시위 예정 장소인 푸쉬킨 광장에 접근하던 중 경찰에 체포돼 구금됐다고 전했습니다. 러시아 정부는 앞서 푸틴 대통령에 반대하는 파벌들의 연합체 ‘다른 러시아’가 계획한 이번 시위를 불법으로 규정하고 시위 금지령을 내렸습니다.
러시아 당국은 오늘 모스크바에서 불법 반정부 시위 참가를 시도한 170여명을 체포 구금했습니다.
‘다른 러시아’ 는 그러나 블라디미르 푸틴 대통령에 반대하는 이번 시위를 열기 위해 당국의 허가를 받을 필요는 없다고 말했습니다.
러시아 당국은 그러나 친정부 청소년 단체가 시위 예정 장소인 푸쉬킨 광장을 미리 예약했다며 다른 시위자들이 이 곳에 모이는 것은 불법이라고 말하고 있습니다.
시위 예정일인 오늘(14일) 모스크바에는 1만여명의 전투경찰과 내무부 소속 병력이 배치돼 시위자들의 집입을 막고 있습니다.

Russian opposition leader, former chess champion Gary Kasparov, has been arrested ahead of a planned illegal opposition protest march in central Moscow.
Witness and media reports say Kasparov was detained today (Saturday) as he approached Moscow's Pushkin Square, where the banned demonstration organized by a coalition of anti-Kremlin factions called "Other Russia," was to take place.
Russian authorities have detained about 170 opposition activists as they tried to take part in a banned anti-government protest march in Moscow.
"Other Russia" has said it does not need permission to hold a downtown demonstration against President Vladimir Putin.
But Moscow authorities say it is illegal for the protesters to gather in Pushkin Square because a pro-Kremlin youth group has reserved the location.
Nearly 10-thousand riot police and interior ministry troops are in place in the Russian capital today (Saturday) to prevent the opposition activists from entering the square.
