아프가니스탄의 탈레반 저항세력은 아프간 정부가 반군 전범들을 풀어주지 않으면 현재 억류하고 있는 인질을 추가로 살해할 것이라고 위협했습니다.
탈레반의 한 대변인은 9일 정부가 협상을 거부하면 탈레반은 지난 달 납치한 아프간 의료진 5명 가운데 1명을 살해할 것이라고 말했습니다. 탈레반은 지난 달 27일 남부 칸다하르 주에서 아프간 의사 1명과 간호사 3명, 그리고 운전기사 1명을 납치했습니다.
탈레반은 이와는 별도로 지난 달 한 이탈리아 기자와 납치한 아프간 통역사를 8일 참수했습니다. 이 단체는 아프간 당국이 동료들을 석방하라는 자신들의 요구를 받아들이지 않아 아즈말 나크시반디를 참수했다고 밝혔습니다.

Taleban militants in Afghanistan have threatened to kill another hostage if the government does not release rebel prisoners.
A purported spokesman for the group (Shahbuddin Atal) said today (Monday) the Taleban will kill one of five members of an Afghan medical team who were kidnapped last month if the government refuses to negotiate. An Afghan doctor, three nurses and their driver were kidnapped on March 27th in the southern province of Kandahar.
On Sunday, the Taleban beheaded an Afghan translator kidnapped in another incident last month along with an Italian journalist. The group said it killed Ajmal Naqshbandi because Afghan authorities failed to meet demands to free Taleban prisoners.
U.S. officials condemned the beheading as barbaric, and Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi called it an "absurd crime."
