이라크 남부도시 바스라에서 오늘(5일) 도로변에 설치된 폭탄이 폭발해 영국군 병사 4명과 통역을 맡은 쿠웨이트 민간인 한 명이 숨졌습니다.
영국군 대변인은 사망자외에 병사 1명이 다쳤다고 말하고 저항세력이 영국군 순찰차량을 향해 소규모 총격을 가했다고 덧붙였습니다.
한편 미군은 바그다드 남부에서 미군 헬리콥터 한 대가 추락했다는 보고에 대해 확인중이라고 말했습니다.
목격자들은 미군 헬리콥터기가 회교 수니파 저항세력의 거점지역인 바그다드 남부 라티피야시를 비행하던중 무장괴한들로부터 공격을 받았다고 말했습니다.
이와 관련해 얼마나 많은 사상자가 발생했는지는 아직 알려지지 않고 있습니다.
이런 가운데 미군은 연합군이 5일 바그다드 남서부 지역 등지를 급습해 저항세력 용의자 17명을 체포했다고 말했습니다.

Four British soldiers and a Kuwaiti interpreter have been killed in a roadside bomb blast in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.
A British military spokesman (Lt. Col. Kevin Stratford-Wright) said a fifth soldier was wounded in the blast. The spokesman said insurgents also opened small arms fire on the British patrol.
Separately, the U.S. military says it is checking reports of an American helicopter crash south of Baghdad.
Witnesses said gunmen opened fire on the helicopter as it flew over the town of Latifiyah, about 35-kilometers south of the Iraqi capital -- an area known to be a Sunni insurgent stronghold.
There was no immediate word about casualties.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military said coalition forces captured 17 suspected terrorists during raids in southwest Baghdad and the town of Karmah (today / Thursday).
The military also said American and Iraqi troops detained two suspects in connection with last week's truck bombing in the northern town of Tal Afar that killed more than 100 people.
