미국의 조지 부시 대통령은 3일 의회가 이라크와 아프가니스탄 전비법안을 조건없이 통과시켜주지 않을 경우 미군들이 고통을 당하게 될 것이라고 말했습니다.
부시 대통령은 이날 백악관 로즈가든에서 행한 연설에서 의원들이 자신이 요구한 대로 조건을 붙이지 않은 전비법안을 통과시키지 않은 채 봄철 휴가를 떠나려 하고 있다고 비난했습니다. 상원과 하원은 각각 이라크에서 미군 철군시한을 설정한 전비법안을 통과시켰습니다.
부시 대통령은 이날 철군시한이 들어있는 전비법안에 대해 거부권을 행사할 것이라고 거듭 밝히고, 이것은 군인가족들이 전선에 나가있는 남편이나 아들의 귀환을 예상보다 더 오래 기다려야 한다는 것을 의미하는 것이라고 말했습니다.

President Bush says U.S. troops will suffer if Congress fails to pass a funding bill without conditions, for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In remarks in the White House Rose Garden today (Tuesday), Mr. Bush chastised U.S. lawmakers for leaving for their spring break without passing a funding bill that has no conditions attached to it, as he has asked. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have passed versions of a bill funding the military but including a timetable for withdrawal for Iraq.
Mr. Bush today repeated his promise to veto any bill containing a deadline, and said that would mean some military families may have to wait longer than expected for their loved ones to return from the front lines.
Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid pledged on Monday that if President Bush vetoes the funding bill, lawmakers will craft legislation that cuts off Iraq funding altogether by early next year.
