반기문 유엔 사무총장은 레바논의 정치적 교착상태를 타개하기 위한 회담을 위해 30일 베이루트를 방문했습니다.
반기문 총장은 친시리아계의 나비 베리 국회의장과 회담을 마친 후에 레바논 지도자들이 국민 화해를 촉진하기 위해 대화할 것을 촉구했습니다.
레바논 정부는 시리아와 이란의 지원을 받는 시아파 단체인 헤즈볼라가 지원하는 친시리아계의 야당과 한달여동안 정치적 교착상태에 빠져 있습니다.
반 총장은 또 지난 2005년 라피크 하리리 전 총리 암살 용의자들에 대한 조사와 재판을 담당할 재판소 설치를 진전시킬 것을 촉구했습니다. 유엔 조사 결과는 시리아 정보 요원들과 레바논 협력자들이 이 암살에 개입한 혐의가 있는 것으로 암시하고 있습니다.
반 총장은 또한 푸아드 시니오라 총리와 의회 다수당 지도자인 사아드 하리리와 회담을 가졌습니다.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is in Beirut today (Friday) for talks on Lebanon's political deadlock.
After meeting with pro-Syrian parliamentary speaker Nabih Berri, Mr. Ban urged Lebanon's leaders to engage in dialogue for the purpose of promoting national reconciliation.
The Lebanese government has been in a months-long political standoff with the pro-Syrian opposition led by Hezbollah, a Shi'ite group backed by Syria and Iran.
Mr. Ban also called for progress in creating a tribunal that would investigate and try suspects in the killing of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005.
A U.N. investigation implicated Syrian intelligence officials and their Lebanese allies in the killings. Syria has denied any involvement in the killing.
Mr. Ban also met with Prime Minister Fuad Siniora and Hariri's son, Saad Hariri, who is parliamentary majority leader.
