반기문 유엔 사무총장은 아랍 국가 정상들에게 수단 다르푸르에서 분쟁을 종식시키기 위해 ‘긍정적 역할’을 해줄 것을 촉구했습니다.
반 총장은 사우디 아라비아에서 열리고 있는 아랍연맹 정상회의에서 28일 다르푸르 주민들은 너무나도 긴 시간을 기다렸고 고통 받아왔다면서 이같이 말했습니다. 반 총장은 이후 수단의 오마르 알-바쉬르 대통령과 만나 다르푸르 사태를 논의했습니다.
구체적인 회담 내용은 알려지지 않고 있습니다. 바쉬르 대통령은 앞서 28일 다르푸르 지역에 평화유지군을 배치하려는 유엔의 노력을 거부한다는 입장을 또다시 강조했습니다.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is urging Arab leaders to play a positive role to end the fighting in Sudan's troubled Darfur region.
Mr. Ban told the Arab summit in Saudi Arabia Wednesday that the people of Darfur have waited too long and suffered too much.
He later met with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on the sidelines of the summit to discuss the situation in Darfur. Details of their meeting were not available.
Earlier Wednesday, President Bashir underlined his rejection of U.N. efforts to send a peacekeeping force into Darfur.
He told the summit that Sudan would only accept financial and logistical support from the United Nations.
However, in a small sign of corporation, the Sudanese government and the United Nations did sign an agreement to boost humanitarian work in Darfur.
