이라크전쟁 개전 4주년을 맞아 17일 미국의 수도 워싱턴 DC에서는 대대적인 반전시위가 벌어졌습니다.
수만명의 반전 시위자들은 쌀쌀한 바람이 부는 날씨속에 베트남참전 기념탑 앞에서 출발해 미군의 총지휘본산인 국방부, 펜타곤까지 행진했습니다.
시위대 선두에는 이라크에서 귀환한 병사들과 일부 전사자 가족들이 앞장섰습니다. 일부 시위대들은 부시 대통령을 탄핵하라는 표지판을 들고 있었습니다.
이날 일부 베트남 참전 군인들과 부시 행정부의 이라크정책을 지지하는 시위대들은 반전 시위대가 출발한 지점에서 반전시위에 반대하는 맞불시위를 벌였습니다. 일부 참가자들은 <워싱턴 포스트>신문에 자신들은 반전 시위자들이 이 신성한 기념탑을 모독허지 못하도록 하기 위해 여기에 모였다고 밝혔습니다.일부 시위자들은 “전쟁에 승리할 것이냐, 아니면 지하드에 패배할 것이냐” “힘을 통한 평화를”이라는 글씨가 적힌 표지판을 들고 있었습니다.

Anti-war protesters are marching around Washington, D.C. today (Saturday) from the city's famed Vietnam Veterans Memorial to the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. military.
Thousands of marchers faced cold, blustery weather as they trudged across a bridge over the Potomac River toward their rallying point. At the head of the march were soldiers who have returned from the war in Iraq and families of some of those who died.
Some of the marchers carried signs reading "Impeach Bush," referring to the president.
Some Vietnam war veterans and supporters of the Bush administration's war policy staged a counter-protest across the street from the starting point of the anti-war march. Some told the Washington Post newspaper they had come to make sure the anti-war demonstrators did not desecrate the memorial.
Others held signs with slogans such as "win the war or lose to jihad" and "peace through strength."
The march commemorates the fourth anniversary of the start of Iraq war.
Nearly three thousand people attended an anti-war religious service at the Washington National Cathedral Friday night, then staged a candlelight march to the White House.
The demonstration was organized by an anti-war religious group called Christian Peace Witness for Iraq.
