A senior U.S. official says the United States plans to give Pakistan 750 million dollars over the next five years to develop tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Richard Boucher made the announcement today (Thursday) at a news conference in Islamabad.
He is in the Pakistani capital for talks with President Pervez Musharraf and other top officials.
Boucher says the financial commitment illustrates the deep relationship between the United States and Pakistan.
