국제원자력기구 (IAEA)가 오늘 (8일) 이란에 대한 기술 지원 계획을 절반으로 줄이는 안을 승인했습니다. IAEA의 이번 조치는 이란이 민간용 핵계획을 위장해 핵무기 개발을 시도할 수 있다는 우려에 따른 것입니다.
IAEA는 오늘 35개국 대표로 구성된 이사회을 열고 50개 이상의 이란 관련 지원 프로그램 가운데 절반 가량을 중단 또는 제한하기로 결정했습니다.
IAEA 주재 이란 대사는 이번 삭감 결정은 이란의 우라늄 농축 계획과 상관이 없다며 이란은 계속해서 우라늄 농축을 계속할 것이라고 말했습니다.
IAEA는 지난해 12월 유엔안전보장이사회가 채택한 이란 제재결의안에 따라 이 같은 조치를 취했습니다. 유엔안보리는 결의안에서 이란의 핵활동과 미사일 계획에 관련된 지원과 기술의 이전을 금지토록 했습니다.
이란은 그러나 유엔의 농축 우라늄 활동 중단 요구 시한을 무시했으며 기술원조 중단 해제와 농축 우라늄 활동 중단을 동시에 행동으로 옮기자는 유럽연합의 제의 역시 어제(7일) 거부했습니다.

The United Nations nuclear agency has approved sharp cuts in technical aid projects to Iran, out of concern that Tehran might be trying to build nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program.
The 35-nation board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency decided today (Thursday) to freeze or curb nearly half of its more than 50 aid projects in Iran.
The Iranian ambassador to the agency (Ali Asghar Soltanieh) responded to the decision, saying the aid cuts are not related to Iran's nuclear enrichment program. He said Iran will continue to enrich uranium.
The IAEA's move follows a U.N. Security Council resolution adopted in December that bans transfers of aid and technology related to Iran's nuclear activity and missile projects.
Iran ignored the resolution, which also demanded that Tehran suspend its uranium enrichment activity within 60 days.
