미군과 이라크 연합군이 저항세력 색출을 위해 회교 시아파 거주 지역인 사드르시에 진입해 가택 수사를 벌이고 있다고 이라크 보안 관리들이 말했습니다.
이라크 관리들은 또 미군과 이라크군이 사드르시 입구에 검문소를 설치하고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
이 같은 움직임은 바그다드내 치안을 확립하기 위한 3주간의 작전에 따른 것으로 그 동안 이 작전을 통해 바그다드내 폭력은 줄었으나 아직 종파간 폭력을 완전히 제거되지는 못하고 있습니다.
사드르시는 종파간 폭력의 주요 배후 세력인 과격 시아파 성직자 모크타다 알 사드르의 민병대인 마흐디군의 거점 지역으로 현재 미군과 이라크군의 소탕 작전에 따라 마흐디 민병대는 지하에 은닉한 것으로 보입니다.
한편 이라크 경찰은 회교 시아파 신문사의 한 편집장이 수니파 거주 지역 근처에 있는 자신의 집 밖에서 무장괴한에 살해됐다고 말했습니다.
이런 가운데 누리 알 말리키 이라크 총리는 오늘 앞으로 2주안에 개각을 단행할 계획이라고 말했습니다. 말리키 총리는 그러나 교체 인물들에 대해 구체적인 언급을 하지 않았습니다.

Security officials in Baghdad say U.S. and Iraqi forces have entered the Shi'ite Muslim stronghold of Sadr City and are conducting house-to-house searches for insurgents.
The officials also say that U.S. and Iraqi troops are setting up checkpoints on the outskirts of Sadr City.
The moves come three weeks into a security crackdown in the Iraqi capital that has reduced, but not eliminated, sectarian violence. Sadr City is largely under the control of the Mahdi Army militia, which appears to have gone underground.
Elsewhere in Baghdad, Iraqi police say gunmen killed a Shi'ite newspaper editor (Mohan al-Dahir) outside his home in a Sunni neighborhood.
On the political front, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki says he plans to reshuffle his cabinet within the next two weeks.
He did not give any hint as to who he might replace.
