Iraqi officials say the bodies of 14 policemen have been found -- hours after a Sunni al-Qaida-linked group said it seized 18 men to avenge an alleged rape.
Officials say the bodies were discovered today (Friday) in Diyala province. Iraqi officials had earlier reported that 14 policemen were missing in Diyala.
In an Internet message, the Islamic State in Iraq said the kidnapping was to retaliate for last month's alleged rape of a woman by policemen from Iraq's largely Shi'ite police force.
In other news today, Iraqi security sources say a car bomb ripped through a market in Baghdad's Shi'ite neighborhood Sadr City, killing 10 people and wounding 17 others.
Also, the U.S. military says a roadside bomb killed two soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter today northwest of Baghdad.
