독일의 프란츠 요세프 융 국방장관은 1일 유럽에 배치될 미국의 미사일 방어체제를 나토의 방위체제로 통합할 것을 제의했습니다.
융 장관은 이날 나토 25개 회원국들이 나토 동맹의 틀 속에서 이 방위체제를 배치하는 문제를 검토할 것을 촉구했습니다. 융 장관은 독일 비스바덴에서 열린 유럽연합 국방장관 회의의 막간에 이같이 말했습니다.
미국은 이란과 북한과 같은 불량국가들로부터 있을지도 모르는 미사일 공격을 막기 위해 폴란드와 체코에 이 미사일 방위체제의 일부를 배치할 것을 제의했습니다. 영국도 미사일 방어체제 배치에 관해 미국과 협상을 시작했습니다.
러시아는 이같은 미국의 계획이 구소련의 위성국들을 잠식하려는 것으로 보고, 이같은 움직임에 적절히 대응할 것이라고 경고했습니다.

Germany's defense minister has suggested that the planned U.S. missile defense system based in Europe be integrated into the defense systems of NATO.
Minister Franz Josef Jung called on the 25 NATO members to consider deploying the system under an alliance framework. He spoke on the sidelines of a meeting of EU defense ministers in the German city of Wiesbaden.
The United States has suggested setting up parts of the system in Poland and the Czech Republic as part of efforts to counter possible missile attacks by what U.S, officials call rogue states such as Iran and North Korea.
Britain has also opened talks with the United States on such deployments.
Russia sees the plans as encroachment on the territory of its former allies and is warning that it will adequately respond to any such move.
