미국은 이란의 핵계획을 막기 위해 유엔 안전보장이사회 상임이사국들이 새로운 결의안의 신속한 처리를 서두르고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
워싱턴에서 미국의 톰 케이시 국무부 부대변인은 2일 안전보장이사회 회원국들이 오는 3일에 전화회의를 통해 결의안의 핵심 부분에 대한 합의를 마무리짓기를 바라고 있다고 말했습니다.
케이시 부대변인은 현안 조치 내용에 대한 논의는 아직 이루어지지 않았으나, 이것이 실질적인 결의안이 될 것으로 생각한다고 말했습니다.
이란은 지난해 12월에 부과한 제재조치 외에 2월 21일까지 우라늄 농축활동을 중단하지 않으면 유엔의 새로운 제재를 받게 될 것이라는 안전보장이사회의 마감시한을 묵살했습니다.

The United States says the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council have made rapid progress on a new resolution to curb Iran's nuclear program.
In Washington today (Friday), U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey said the council members hope to finalize agreement on the "elements" of a resolution in a telephone conference call Saturday.
Although he would not discuss the contents of the pending measure, Casey said he thought it would be a substantive resolution.
Iran ignored a U.N. Security Council deadline last week (February 21st) to suspend uranium enrichment or face new U.N. sanctions, on top of those imposed in December.
The United States and its Western allies suspect Iran is working to develop nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies.
