아시아를 순방 중인 딕 체니 미국 부통령이 최근 중국이 실시한 인공위성 요격실험을 비난 했습니다. 체니 부통령은 요격실험을 포함한 계속된 군비 확장은, 중국 정부가 천명하고 있는 국제강국으로의 평화적부상이라는 목표에 부합하지 않는다고 말했습니다.
체니 부통령은 23일 호주 시드니에서 행한 연설을 통해 이같이 밝혔습니다. 체니 부통령은 하지만 북 핵 6자회담과 관련한 중국 역할에 대해서는 찬사를 보냈습니다.
북핵 문제와 관련해서 체니 부통령은 2.13 북핵 공동합의 이행 가능성에 대해서는 의문을 나타냈습니다.
체니 부통령은 “지난해 7월의 미사일 실험과 10의 핵 실험, 무기 확산과 인권 유린 등의 전력을 고려할 때, 북한 정권은 아직도 많은 것을 증명해야 한다”고 말했습니다.
한편 이라크 문제에 관련해서, 체니 부통령은 미국과 동맹국들은 이라크를 포함해 여러 외국출신 테러분자들의 천국이 되는 것을 방관 할 수 없다고 말했습니다.

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney says China's recent anti-satellite test and continued rapid military build-up are "not consistent" with Beijing's stated aim of a peaceful rise as a global power.
Cheney made the remark in a speech today (Friday) in the Australian city of Sydney.
The vice president praised China for its role in six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program.
Cheney also questioned whether North Korea will follow through on its commitments in the February 13th nuclear deal.
The vice president said - in his words - "in light of North Korea's missile tests last July, its nuclear test in October and its record of proliferation and human rights abuses, the regime in Pyongyang has much to prove."
Regarding Iraq, Cheney said the United States and its allies cannot afford to abandon Iraq or other countries that could provide a haven for terrorists.
