이라크 서부 도시 라마디에서 미군 병력과 저항분자들간에 여섯 시간 동안 전투가 벌어져 적어도 열 두 명의 저항분자들이 살해됐다고 이라크 주둔 미 해병대 대변인, 숀 머써 중위가 밝혔습니다.
미군과 저항분자들간의 전투는 21일 늦게 무장자들의 라마디 주둔 미군에 대한 공격으로 시작됐다면서 이같이 밝히고민간인 사상자는 없다고 덧붙였습니다. 그러나 이라크 관계관들은 이 전투중에 여자와 어린이 등, 적어도 스물 여섯 명이 희생됐다고 주장했습니다.
한편, 이라크 저항분자들의 헬리콥터 격추능력과 염소 가스를 이용한 폭탄 등 새로 개발된 공격방법에 대응하는 방안을 강구중이라고 이라크 주둔 미군 부사령관, 레이 오디에르노 중장이 밝혔습니다.

The U.S. military in Iraq says U.S. forces killed at least 12 insurgents during a six-hour battle in the city of Ramadi. Marine spokesman First Lieutenant Shawn Mercer says the battle started late Wednesday when gunmen attacked U.S. forces in Ramadi.
The city, in Anbar province, west of Baghdad, is a Sunni insurgent stronghold. Mercer said there were no civilian casualties. But Iraqi officials report that at least 26 people were killed, including women and children.
Elsewhere in Iraq, coalition forces killed three terrorists and detained 11 others during operations north of Baghdad near Taji and Samarra.
The second-ranking U.S. commander in Iraq says his forces are working to counter two new capabilities developed by insurgents -- an improved ability to shoot down helicopters and bombs with deadly chlorine gas.
