한편 크리스토퍼 가버 미군중장은 로이터 통신과의 회견에서 시리아와 이란으로 통하는 이라크 국경 폐쇄 계획이 14일 오후 실행에 들어갔다고 밝혔습니다.
이라크는 이번 보안 계획의 일환으로 일대 국경지역을 72시간동안 폐쇄한다고 밝히고 있습니다.
한편 알 말리키 이라크 총리의 한 측근은 급진 시아파 성직자 모크타다 알 사드르가 이란으로 도주했다는 미국의 주장을 확인했습니다.

Iraqi and U.S. forces have stepped up joint patrols in Baghdad as part of a new security crackdown to stem sectarian and insurgent violence in the city.
Troops set up new checkpoints across the city and started search and clearing operations Wednesday, when Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced the official beginning of the new security plan.
Meanwhile, a U.S. military official (Lt. Col. Christopher Garver) told Reuters news agency the plan to close Iraq's borders with Syria and Iran went into effect late Wednesday.
Iraq has annouced the closing of its borders for 72 hours as part of the crackdown.
Separately, an advisor to Iraq's prime minister has confirmed the U.S. assertion that radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr is in Iran.
Sami al-Askari said the Shi'ite leader traveled to Iran by land "a few days ago." But he denied claims that Sadr has fled Iraq.
