인도네시아에서 구조대원들과 구호 요원들은 자카르타에서 지난 몇일째 계속된 집중 호우로 발생한 30여만명의 이재민을 돕기 위해 안간힘을 쓰고 있습니다.
앞으로 2주 동안 더 많은 비가 내릴 것으로 예상되는 가운데 당국자들은 천 3백만명이 거주하는 자카르타 시에 고도의 경보를 발령하고 헬기와 구조 선박들을 동원한 수 천명의 구조 대원들을 추가로 배치했습니다.
당국자들은 20구의 시신을 회수했다고 밝히고 더 많은 사상자가 발생할 것 같다고 경고했습니다.
보건 관계관들은 자카르타 시내 대부분의 상수도가 오염됐으며 발이 묶인 주민들이 수인성 병원균으로 인한 질병 위험에 처해있다고 말하고 있습니다.
인도네시아의 라츠맛 위토엘라 환경 장관은 최근 몇년 만에 최악인 이번 홍수는 열악한 도시 계획과 과다한 건축 탓이라고 비난했습니다.

Indonesian rescue and relief teams struggled today (Sunday) to help more than 300-thousand people in Jakarta left homeless by devastating flooding from days of torrential rains.
With more rain forecast for the next two weeks, authorities placed the city of 13 million people on high alert and deployed thousands more rescue personnel equipped with helicopters and inflatable watercraft. Television footage showed streets submerged in up to three meters of muddy water, and stranded people waving from rooftops.
Authorities say 20 bodies have been recovered, and warn that many more casualties are likely. Health officials say much of the city's fresh well water has been contaminated, and stranded people are at risk of illness from water-borne pathogens.
Indonesia's Environment Minister Rachmat Witoelar has blamed the floods -- the worst in years -- on poor urban planning and excessive construction in natural drainage areas.
