Indian defense officials say the country has successfully test-fired a supersonic cruise missile it jointly developed with Russia.
Officials say the Brahmos was fired today (Sunday) from India's main missile testing center in the eastern state of Orissa.
The missile has a range of 290 kilometers and is designed to carry up to 300 kilograms of conventional warheads. The Brahmos is designed to be launched from land, ships, submarines or aircraft.
India and neighboring Pakistan routinely test-fire missiles. The nuclear powers say the tests are aimed at strengthening their military preparedness.
