Somali witnesses say at least seven people have been killed in mortar attacks in the capital, Mogadishu.
Several others were wounded when unidentified gunmen fired on a residential area and an Ethiopian military camp late Thursday. Ethiopian troops joined forces with government forces to drive Islamist fighters out of Somalia last month.
Officials blamed the mortar attacks on gunmen loyal to the Islamists.
Somali forces have been struggling to assert their authority in the war torn nation, as residents have voiced their opposition to the presence of Ethiopian troops. Addis Ababa has begun pulling its troops from the Horn of Africa nation, sparking fears it would slip once again into anarchy.
The African Union has approved an eight-thousand member peacekeeping force to be deployed in Somalia to replace the Ethiopian troops.
