미국의 한 고위 관리는 이란에 대해 무기 기술로 이라크 내 저항세력을 돕지 말도록 경고했습니다.
니콜라스 번스 미 국무부 정무차관은 미군은 이라크 내 시아파 저항단체들에게 “매우 정교한 폭탄 기술”을 전달한 것으로 보이는 이란인 용의자들을 구금했다고 말했습니다.
번스 차관은 1일 방송된 미국의 공영방송 NPR과의 회견에서 이같이 말했습니다.
번스 차관은 이 상황을 아주 심각하다고 말하고 미국의 메시지는 이란이 이러한 행동을 중단하라는 것이라고 강조했습니다.
번스 차관은 미국은 약 2년동안 이란의 개입여부를 추적해 왔으며 이란이 이라크남부, 시아파 단체들에게 원조를 증대시키고 있다는 사실을 밝혀냈다고 말했습니다. 그는 이란은 현재 바그다드 지역을 포함해 이라크 전역으로 활동을 개시했다고 덧붙였습니다.

A senior U.S. official has warned Iran to stop helping insurgents in Iraq with weapons technology.
Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns says U.S. forces have detained Iranians suspected of "giving very sophisticated explosive technology to Shi'ite insurgent groups" in Iraq.
The U.S. diplomat made the remark in an interview with (U.S.) National Public Radio, aired today (Thursday).
Describing the situation as very serious, Burns said "the message from the United States is, Iran should cease and desist."
He said that for about two years the United States has been tracking Iranian involvement and has found increasing evidence of Iranian assistance to Shi'ite groups in southern Iraq. He added they now have begun operations "throughout the country," including the Baghdad region.
