유엔환경기구는 지구온난화에 대처하기 위한 새로운 방안에 관한 긴급정상회의를 소집하라고 반기문 유엔 사무총장에게 촉구했습니다.
유엔한경기구의 닉 뉴탈 대변인은 30일, 케냐 수도, 나이로비에서 오는 9월로 예정돼 있는 지구환경 정상회의를 개최할 계기가 조성되고 있다면서 이같이 촉구했습니다.
반기문 사무총장은 이에 대해 케냐 정부가 환경정상회의 주최를 제의했다고 밝히면서 그에 대한 자신의 찬성여부를 밝히지 않은채 음와이 키바키 케냐 대통령과 그에 관해 논의할 것이라고 말했습니다.
미국의 죠지 부시 대통령과 유럽연합은 최근 지구온난화를 초래하는 것으로 지적되는 온실가스 배출감축을 위해 추가조치들이 시행돼야 한다고 촉구하고 있습니다.

The U.N. environmental agency is pressuring Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to call a emergency summit on new measures to fight global warming.
Speaking to journalists in Kenya's capital Nairobi today (Tuesday), Mr. Ban said the Kenyan government has offered to host the summit. He stopped short of endorsing the idea, but said he would discuss it with Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki.
A U.N. environmental spokesman (Nick Nuttal) says momentum is building for the proposed conference, which would take place in September.
Both President Bush and the European Union recently said more must be done to reduce so-called greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.
This week, scientists are set to issue a new report warning that warmer temperatures could lead to rising sea levels and more violent weather.
