인도의 집권 국민회의당의 소냐 간디 당수는 인도는 자체적으로 핵을 보유하고 있음에도 불구하고 전세계 비핵화 노력에 전념하고 있다고 말했습니다.
간디 당수는 29일 전세계는 핵무기를 폐기하지 않았기 때문에 인도는 “전략적인 강박감 (strategic compulsion)”으로 핵무기를 보유하게 됐다고 말했습니다.
간디 당수는 그러나 인도는 비핵화 노력에 전념하고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
간디 당수는 인도 건국의 아버지인 마하트마 간디가 남아프리카 공화국에서 펼친 비폭력 운동의 시작 100주년을 기념하기 위해 인도의 수도 뉴델리에서 열린 국제회의에서 이같이 말했습니다.

The head of India's ruling Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi, says her country is committed to worldwide nuclear disarmament, even though it has nuclear weapons of its own.
Gandhi today (Monday) said gaining nuclear weapons became "a strategic compulsion" for India, because the world had not abolished them. But she added that India is committed to disarmament efforts.
She made the comments at an international conference, held in New Delhi to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent movement in South Africa.
