콩고 민주공화국을 방문중인 반기문 유엔 사무총장은 콩고의 안정을 돕기위해 주둔하고 있는 유엔 평화유지군이 당분간은 계속 주둔할 것이라고 말했습니다.
반기문 사무총장은 27일 콩고의 수도 킨샤샤에서 콩고에 주둔하고 있는 유엔 평화유지군 병력 2만명의 철군은 콩고 정부와의 협의에 따라 단계적으로 이뤄질 것이라고 말했습니다.
반기문 총장은 장기적인 안정을 위해 자체적으로 치안병력을 양성해야 한다고 콩고에 촉구했습니다.
콩고에서는 지난해 40여년 만에 처음으로 민주적인 절차에 따른 선거가 실시됐습니다.
인도주의 단체 ‘옥스팜’은 콩고 주둔 유엔 평화유지군 규모가 축소되면 나라가 혼란에 빠질 지도 모른다고 경고했습니다.
콩고에서는 지난 2002년 5년 동안에 걸친 내전이 끝난 이후 불안한 가운데 평화가 유지되고 있습니다.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is assuring the Democratic Republic of Congo that a U.N. peacekeeping force stabilizing the nation will not be leaving any time soon.
Speaking in the D.R.C.'s capital, Kinshasa (Saturday), Mr. Ban said the nearly 20 thousand U.N. peacekeepers would be withdrawn in a progressive manner, at a rate to be discussed with the government.
He said Congo must train its own security forces to ensure long-term stability, following last year's democratic elections - the first in more than 40 years.
The humanitarian group Oxfam has warned that a reduction of peacekeepers would mean chaos for the D.R.C. Congo has struggled to maintain a fragile peace since ending a five-year civil war in 2002.
