이라크 수도 바그다드의 폭력사태가 격화되고 있는 가운데, 18일 하루동안 바그다드 전역에서 5건의 차량 폭탄 폭발로 적어도 17명이 사망하고 40명 이상 부상했다고, 이라크 당국자들이 밝혔습니다.
도라 지구에서 몇 분 간격으로 3건의 폭발이 발생했고, 다른 차량 폭탄들은 바그다드 중부와 서부에서 폭발했습니다.
또한 18일 바그다드에서 시아파 회교도가 주로 거주하는 사드르 시티와 북부도시 키르쿠크에서 각각 발생한 공격으로 적어도 25명이 사망하고 70명 이상 부상했습니다.
앞선 17일에도 수도 주위에서 발생한 공격들로 100명 이상 사망했습니다.
한편, 미군은 무인항공기 1대가 18일 바그다드 공항 근처에 추락했다고 밝혔습니다. 지상에서 사상자가 발생했다는 보고는 나오지 않고 있는 가운데, 미군은 이번 추락사고가 적대행위에 의한 것으로는 보이지 않는다고 말했습니다.

Iraqi officials say at least 17 people have been killed in a series of car bomb explosions in Baghdad as violence in the city continues to surge.
Police say more than 40 people were wounded in five car bombings across the capital today (Thursday).
Three explosions occurred within minutes of each other in the Dora district, while others car bombings took place in central and eastern Baghdad.
On Wednesday, at least 25 people were killed and more than 70 wounded in separate attacks in Baghdad's mainly Shi'ite Sadr City district and the northern city of Kirkuk. More than 100 people were killed in attacks around the capital Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military said an unmanned American aircraft (remote controlled drone) crashed near Baghdad's airport Wednesday. There were no reports of injuries on the ground. The military said the crash does not appear to be from hostile activity.
