미국의 힐러리 클린턴 상원의원은 14일 아프가니스탄을 잠시 방문한 뒤를 이어 파키스탄의 라호레에서 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령을 만났습니다.
무샤라프 대통령은 이날 회담에서 이웃나라인 아프간의 안정을 돕고 테러리즘과의 전쟁에 계속 참여할 것이라고 말했습니다.
힐러리 의원은 앞서 아프가니스탄을 방문해 수도 카불에서 하미드 카르자이 아프간 대통령과 미군 지휘관들을 만나 병력 강화 등 양국의 상호 이해 관계에 대해 논의했습니다.
힐러리 의원은 민주당의 동료 에반 베이 상원의원, 공화당의 존 맥휴 하원의원과 함께 중동과 남아시아 지역을 방문하고 있습니다.
힐러리 의원 등 미국 의회 대표단은 앞서 바그다드를 방문해 미군 고위급 지휘관들과 이라크의 누리 알 말리키 총리를 만났습니다. 말리키 총리는 이 자리에서 부시 대통령이 발표한 2만여명의 추가 병력 파병 계획을 지지한다고 말했습니다.

U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton has met with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in Lahore, after a brief visit to Afghanistan.
During today's (Sunday's) meeting, General Musharraf said Pakistan is committed to fighting terrorism and ensuring stability in neighboring Afghanistan.
Earlier, the Democratic senator met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and American military leaders in Kabul to discuss matters of mutual interest, including troop strength.
Clinton (a Democrat from New York) is traveling with fellow Democratic Party Senator Evan Bayh (of Indiana) and Republican Party Congressman John McHugh (of New York).
On Saturday, the delegation met with American military commanders and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad.
Mr. Maliki has said he supports President Bush's plan to send some 20-thousand additional troops to Iraq.
