차베스 대통령은 지난 8일, 전력회사와 베네수엘라 최대 통신 회사를 국유화할 수 있는 특별 권한을 의회에 요청할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
차베스 대통령은 베네수엘라가 사회주의를 향해 나가고 있다면서 누구도 이를 막을 수 없다고 말했습니다.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has been sworn in for a second six-year term today (Wednesday) in ceremonies in the capital, Caracas.
Chavez takes office amid criticism after announcing plans to nationalize important segments of Venezuela's economy.
Earlier this week (Monday), the leftist leader said he will ask the National Assembly to grant him special powers to nationalize electric utility companies and the country's largest telecommunications company, CANTV.
He also asked lawmakers to give him the authority to make economic changes by decree. Mr. Chavez said Venezuela is heading toward socialism and no one can stop it.
Opposition lawmakers accuse the president of moving Venezuela toward a totalitarian form of government that resembles Cuba. Mr. Chavez is a long-time admirer of Cuban leader Fidel Castro. He was re-elected last month with 63 percent of the vote.
